Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Managed Gateways)

Role overview

Join Kong as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Managed Gateways). You will architect and maintain the infrastructure that powers Kong’s mission-critical managed services, lead a team of SREs, and drive end-to-end operational excellence. You’ll also collaborate with Product, engineering, and Customer Success, and partner with enterprise customers on Cloud Gateway onboarding and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain resilient, scalable infrastructure for Kong’s managed services
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of Site Reliability Engineers
• Own the end-to-end operational lifecycle:
  • proactive monitoring and alerting
  • incident response
  • blameless post-mortems and continuous service improvement
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, engineering, and Customer Success
• Work directly with enterprise customers to support onboarding and Cloud Gateway implementations

Requirements

• Proven track record building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
• Extensive SRE experience with highly available and distributed systems
• Strong proficiency in Golang (or similar modern languages) for automation and tooling
• Deep knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog)
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures, preferably across multiple public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Nice to have

• Experience with managed services, API gateways, or similar network infrastructure
• Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
• Familiarity with high-throughput database administration (PostgreSQL, Cassandra)
• Contributions to open-source SRE tools/projects
• Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, CKA)
