About the role
Role: Senior Security Engineer (Consultant)
Senior Security Engineer Consultant at Reactforce supporting hands-on security consulting engagements. This is a part-time 1099 contract-to-hire role with the opportunity to transition to full-time as the company grows.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, configure, and support enterprise cybersecurity solutions across diverse client environments
- Implement and manage security technologies such as:
- EDR/XDR, SIEM, MDR
- Firewalls, secure email, web filtering
- Identity security and vulnerability management platforms
- Perform security assessments, technical reviews, vulnerability remediation, and security hardening
- Lead implementations for Microsoft security initiatives, including:
- Microsoft 365 Security, Microsoft Defender
- Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA
- Privileged Identity Management (PIM)
- Zero Trust initiatives
- Deploy and optimize network security controls (e.g., next-gen firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, secure remote access)
- Investigate security incidents and support containment, remediation, and recovery
- Partner with Reactforce vCISOs to implement security roadmaps and technical recommendations
- Provide technical leadership and act as a senior escalation resource during engagements
- Produce technical documentation, implementation guides, security standards, and client deliverables
- Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on cybersecurity engineering experience (enterprise, MSP, MSSP, or consulting)
- Strong experience with Microsoft security stack:
- Microsoft Defender
- Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
- Microsoft 365 Security
- Conditional Access, MFA, identity protection
- Experience with SIEM/MDR/XDR, endpoint security, vulnerability management, email security, and security monitoring
- Experience deploying/supporting next-generation firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco, or similar)
- Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, routing/switching, secure network design)
- Cloud security experience in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and client-facing consulting skills
- Ability to independently lead technical implementations and security projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Security certifications: CISSP, CCSP, Security+, GIAC, Microsoft security (SC-200/SC-300/SC-100), Azure certs, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSE
- Compliance experience with frameworks/standards such as NIST CSF/800-53/800-171, CMMC, CIS Controls, HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001
- Vulnerability management tools (Tenable, Qualys, Rapid7)
- Prior consulting/professional services experience
- Experience working with SOC, incident response, and managed security teams
Engagement Details
- Remote, U.S.-based
- Part-time, 1099 (contract-to-hire)
- Compensation: $70–$95 per hour (billable client work)
