Senior Risk & Compliance Engineer (Data)

Role Overview

Join Instacart’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) team as a Senior Risk & Compliance Engineer (Data). You’ll use data science and data engineering expertise to automate risk signal ingestion, build probabilistic risk models, and support risk quantification for security, engineering, and executive stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Build automated, real-time signal ingestion pipelines that extract data from security tools.
• Develop probabilistic risk models to express security exposure as probability distributions.
• Identify systemic bottlenecks on the attack surface and prioritize remediation paths by expected impact.

Requirements

• Experience developing metrics used for security and business decision-making.
• Data modeling experience for classification, normalization, and risk/anomaly detection signal development.
• 3+ years building and deploying machine learning or probabilistic models (e.g., Bayesian models) in production.
• Experience building data pipelines ingesting real-time / near-real-time data across multiple formats, supporting stream and batch processing at scale.
• 5+ years of data engineering, with production-level Python and SQL (including PostgreSQL, Presto, or SparkSQL).
• Familiarity with security risk concepts such as threat intelligence enrichment pipelines, EPSS, or CISA KEV.
• Familiarity with quantitative risk frameworks such as FAIR.
• Context with security/compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF and SOC 2.
• Ability to translate risk model outputs into executive/board-level narratives.
• Passion for building systems that protect customers and products in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
