About the role

Role Overview

Courtyard is seeking a Senior Revenue Accountant to lead complex revenue accounting and month-end close activities for a high-transaction marketplace. The role sits at the intersection of accounting judgment, data validation, and business collaboration to ensure ASC 606 compliance as products and programs evolve.

Responsibilities

Own key areas of the monthly close, including:
- Revenue and contra-revenue
- Customer incentives
- Payment processor activity
- Inventory-related accounting
- Balance sheet reconciliations
Apply ASC 606 to complex revenue streams, including:
- Standalone selling price (SSP)
- Variable consideration
- Consideration payable to a customer
- Rewards, credits, discounts, and marketplace programs
Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis, and supporting schedules with an emphasis on accuracy, auditability, and scalability.
Partner with Data, Product, Operations, and Finance to:
- Validate transaction-level reporting
- Identify data gaps
- Ensure new products/programs are accounted for correctly
Use SQL, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve reconciliations, reporting, controls, and close efficiency.
Research and document accounting conclusions for:
- New launches and promotional programs
- Customer offers and other judgmental areas
Support audits, technical accounting memos, internal controls, and process documentation.

Requirements

5–7+ years of accounting experience; industry experience preferred (technology, marketplace, fintech, payments, ecommerce, crypto, rewards/loyalty, or other high-volume transaction environments).
Strong understanding of ASC 606, including:
- Revenue recognition
- SSP
- Variable consideration
- Principal-versus-agent considerations
- Contract modifications
- Consideration payable to a customer
Proven ability to work through judgmental accounting in an operational environment.
Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment with imperfect information and cross-functional dependencies.
Advanced Excel skills and comfort with large datasets.
SQL experience or willingness to use SQL regularly.
AI-friendly mindset focused on accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

Experience using automation/AI-enabled tools for accounting processes and controls.
