About the role
Role Overview
Scopely is hiring a Senior Researcher for its Research & Insights team. You will design and implement consumer research programs to guide development of a new Mobile/PC game, delivering insights that influence player experience, product direction, and business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead research initiatives to deepen understanding of player experience across development and live operations.
- Design, execute, and present high-impact quantitative and qualitative studies in partnership with research operations and cross-functional teams (Game Design, UX Design, Product Management, Production, Marketing, Data Analytics).
- Own end-to-end UX research, including:
- screener/survey design
- recruiting
- script development
- moderation
- analysis
- presentation of findings
- budget management
- Manage external research partners/vendors, ensuring cost-effective studies with clear objectives and timely, actionable results.
- Partner with game development and central strategy teams to connect research results to KPIs and proposed solutions to player-identified issues.
- Collaborate with the Research & Insights team to evolve research methods/toolkits and provide mentorship.
Requirements
- 6+ years of research experience in gaming (developer/publisher or research agency).
- Strong mixed-method UX research foundation (e.g., surveys, usability playtests, IDIs, focus groups).
- Proven ability to design and execute multiple high-impact qualitative and quantitative studies for games in development and live.
- Passion for games; strong understanding of core loops and monetization in mobile/PC games.
- Experience working with and managing external research vendors.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and project management skills; ability to build trust and influence cross-functional decisions through insights.
- High attention to detail and comfort with complex questions.
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferably Psychology, HCI, Game Design, Social Science, or related). MBA/Master’s/PhD preferred.
Nice to Have
- Experience with online survey tools: Decipher, Qualtrics, SurveyGizmo/Alchemer.
- Experience with remote testing platforms: PlaytestCloud, UserZoom, UserTesting.
- Analytics tools: SPSS, SQL.
- Experience in competitive or midcore live-service games.
Location / Work Setup
- Based in Culver City (hybrid), or remote within the US or Canada.
- Monthly travel for in-person research at the LA-based lab is required.
