Role Overview
Senior React/Redux Frontend Developer (Fully Remote, US)
You will lead front-end feature delivery and architectural improvements for VA.gov applications, driving technical strategy, mentoring engineers, and partnering cross-functionally to build scalable, user-focused UI solutions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical leader for front-end engineering: architectural decisions, coding standards, and long-term technical roadmap
- Design, develop, and optimize UI components using React, Redux, TypeScript, and enterprise design system libraries
- Oversee integration of complex REST/SOAP APIs and VA enterprise services within distributed systems
- Lead system planning and architecture discussions; contribute to the full SDLC
- Mentor mid-level developers and conduct in-depth code reviews to ensure engineering excellence
- Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, backend teams, and stakeholders to refine requirements
- Produce estimates, technical approaches, and implementation plans
- Create and maintain technical documentation (e.g., architecture diagrams, operational guides)
- Lead and participate in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to ensure reliability and maintainability
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization
- Evaluate requirements, data flows, security implications, and dependencies for modernization efforts
- Lead/participate in sprint reviews, backlog grooming, and other Agile ceremonies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with 5–8 years of professional software development experience
- 5–8 years building production-grade applications using React and Redux
- Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, modern UI component patterns, and enterprise design systems
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor developers
- Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum and SDLC best practices
- Experience integrating with REST/SOAP APIs and distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks
- Experience in government cloud hosting environments, especially AWS
- Proficiency with GitHub, Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting VA / VA.gov or other Federal agencies
- Familiarity with VA enterprise systems such as CorpDB, MPI, BDN, or VBMS
- Knowledge of government networks, cloud infrastructure, and FedRAMP-compliant environments
- Experience with large-scale refactoring, modernization, or migration efforts
Clearance / Eligibility
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance
