Senior QA Engineer

Role Overview

Senior QA Engineer acting as the final line of defense for Angel’s living room/streaming applications. You will lead the testing strategy across Roku, Android TV/Fire TV, Apple TV, and other Smart TV ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end verification of the user journey from app launch to video playback across a “Wall of TVs.”
• Own the outcomes / defect advocacy: lead investigations when bugs reach viewers; reproduce issues with developers using detailed logs (e.g., Roku logs, ADB).
• 10-foot UX testing: ensure smooth navigation (D-pad), clear focus states, and no UI stutter/jank during transitions.
• Video quality assurance: verify stream health including 4K/HDR, closed caption sync, and multi-language audio switching (manual and programmatic).
• Regression management: maintain and execute automated regression suites to protect platform stability.
• Hardware fragmentation testing: identify and document platform-specific issues (e.g., model-dependent memory leaks).
• Network & performance profiling: use proxy tools to simulate low-bandwidth and test buffering/offline behavior.
• Resource stewardship: balance manual “feel” testing with efficient automated regression coverage.
• Team participation: attend and contribute to regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Requirements

• 5+ years in Quality Assurance with a strong focus on OTT (Over-the-Top) or Smart TV applications.
• Ability to work from the perspective of a viewer using a remote (not only desk/dev workflows).
• Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing).

Nice-to-Haves

• Deep familiarity with Roku quirks, especially BrightScript/SceneGraph.
• Debugging/proxy tooling: Charles Proxy/Fiddler, Chrome DevTools, Roku telnet console, Android Debug Bridge (ADB).
• Automation comfort: updating/executing scripts using Appium or platform SDKs.
• Observability/monitoring experience to detect UI lag, Time to First Frame, and crashes.
• AI tooling experience (e.g., Claude, Cursor).
• Additional language proficiency.
