About the role
Role Overview
As a Senior Product Manager (Payments) at Xero, you’ll drive customer and business value by owning new and existing products end-to-end. You’ll operate in a complex, ambiguous product space with strong stakeholder management, and your impact will be measured through commercial and customer success metrics.
Team
You’ll join Xero’s Payments Portfolio within one of its Get Paid teams, supporting a year 1 of a 3-year strategy to transform Xero’s payments business.
What You’ll Do
- Strategise product vision: Frame products within Xero’s overall strategy and future objectives.
- Drive customer-centricity: Lead customer engagement, research, and insight collection to inform decisions and risk assessment.
- Problem identification & solution framing: Define customer problems and frame solutions for testing and refinement.
- Product line strategy & resourcing: Secure funding and resources for product line strategy.
- Product delivery & launch: Own roadmaps, release strategies, and ensure effective launches.
- Manage product risks: Own non-functional risks such as security, privacy, and compliance, and lead trade-off decisions.
- Monitor & optimise performance: Review and analyze commercial and customer outcomes; drive iterative improvements.
- Guide end-to-end lifecycle: Manage products from launch through ongoing evolution to sunset, maintaining strategic alignment.
- Develop product practice & team: Improve product practices and coach/train/recruit team members.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of product management experience.
- Experience improving customer workflows and learning through experimentation (experimentation mindset).
- Proven ability to deliver products with meaningful customer and business impact.
- Strong commercial acumen, including translating work into financial outcomes (payments targets).
- Ability to go technically deep and engage in detailed engineering design.
- Experience executing an API-first strategy and supporting engineering efficiency goals.
- Interest in AI and how it can improve customer and company outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data and turn insights into strategy.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management, comfortable presenting to senior leadership.
- Growth mindset and passion for learning and innovation.
Nice-to-Have / Additional Focus Areas
- Payments domain context and strong understanding of delivering against financial and customer success metrics.
- Comfort handling non-functional areas: security, privacy, and compliance.
