About the role
Role Overview
Join LaunchDarkly as a Senior Product Designer (Growth), owning the trial and activation experience for developers. You’ll improve feature discoverability, shape activation-focused roadmap decisions, and collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the trial-to-paid journey, from signup through SDK integration to the first flag and conversion to a paid plan.
- Work from evidence sources including customer analytics, product funnel analysis, and insights from sales/support call and model data, then run your own research.
- Drive data-informed roadmap decisions with product and engineering leaders, accelerating activation opportunities.
- Participate in UX critique and run design discovery in a triad (before receiving a brief).
- Run end-to-end design experiments (hypothesis → prototype/ship → analyze results → iterate).
Requirements
- Growth-focused product design background (activation funnels, conversion experiments, behavioral design), not generalist product design.
- Ability to explore 0→1 problems in ambiguity and iterate quickly on an existing instrumented flow (including agentic onboarding).
- Define success upfront and be honest when results don’t support hypotheses.
- Strong understanding of developer experience for evaluation and setup: CLI usage, SDK setup, API credential management, and connection debugging.
- Ability to prioritize work that moves the business, and articulate tradeoffs between short-term activation wins and long-term product coherence.
- Ability to back design positions with evidence; strong experimentation and metric impact storytelling.
- 7+ years designing digital products with demonstrated impact on activation, conversion, or retention (with portfolio metrics and causality).
- Growth/B2B software experience in PLG/freemium/self-serve/trial-to-paid contexts.
- Ability to diagnose activation failures upstream and design solutions that hold across the funnel.
- Experience across flows with high-fidelity specs, prototypes, and written strategy, choosing the format based on the decision.
- Strong communication with design and product leadership; feedback is specific and direct.
- Experience using funnel data, activation metrics, and voice-of-customer analysis to guide decisions.
- Curiosity and strong opinions on AI agent interfaces (e.g., MCP integrations, Cursor/Copilot/Claude workflows), even if deep prior experience isn’t required.
- Ask engineering questions, read technical docs, and understand what’s hard to build.
Nice-to-Haves
- Deep AI agent interface design experience (not required, but important for agentic onboarding work).
