Role overview
Wayfinder is looking for a Senior Product Designer (Contractor) to help shape the future of its web platform. This is a remote, seasonal contract with an anticipated 3-month timeframe.
Responsibilities
- Understand the needs of students, teachers, and administrators through direct engagement and product analysis.
- Translate product and technical requirements into wireframes, user flows, mockups, and prototypes that prioritize intuitive UX.
- Define, manage, and execute product research and prototyping needs tied to feature development.
- Collaborate with educators, designers, and engineers to deliver coherent product experiences.
- Help with the maintenance and standardization of the component library.
- Own the design lifecycle from research and concepting through delivery.
Requirements
- 5–7+ years designing digital products, comfortable owning the full design lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of education stakeholders (students, teachers, administrators) and translating insights into usable experiences.
- Experience working directly with customers/stakeholders and interpreting feedback.
- Proficiency in Figma.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision and welcome feedback.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Strong portfolio with case studies and relevant work samples.
- Experience supporting design research (e.g., usability studies, customer engagements).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written), including ability to explain ideas via sketches and prototypes.
- Undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
- Strong time-management and ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience designing features for AI-enabled workflows.
- Experience leveraging AI to streamline UX.
- Experience building in startup environments with a bias toward action.
