Role overview
Ashby is hiring a Senior Product Designer to rethink how modern software is designed. The role blends design with product ownership, consulting, and design systems—working closely with product managers and engineers in a principled, team-owned way.
How the team works
- Product teams typically include a product manager, designer, and ~4–5 engineers.
- PMs usually brief designers, who then design; deliverables are handed to engineers.
- Ashby emphasizes designing only where needed and enabling better product-team decisions (including editing decisions PMs/engineers make).
What you’ll do
- Tackle major product design challenges end-to-end when appropriate (effectively owning projects from start to finish).
- Provide product updates and help manage resources for the work you own.
- Equip the broader product team to make better design decisions through guidance and design systems thinking.
- Apply a “no status quo / resist reversion” mindset to improve and iterate on the product.
Requirements
- Strong product design experience with the ability to determine when design depth is truly needed.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with PMs and engineers, partnering on decisions across the product lifecycle.
- Self-directed, intrinsically motivated approach in a culture with fuzzy role boundaries and minimal meetings.
Nice-to-haves (implied)
- Experience influencing product direction, not just producing UI.
- Comfort working in an IC-heavy environment with autonomy.
- Experience with recruiting/talent workflows or complex scheduling-like problems (context from what Ashby builds).
