Senior Product Designer

Role overview

As a Senior Product Designer at Ashby, you’ll help rethink how modern software is designed. You’ll operate in a principled, end-to-end product team model, blending design with product thinking—often acting as part product manager, part design system owner, and part consultant (depending on the project).

How you’ll work

• Product teams typically include a PM, a designer, and ~4–5 engineers.
• The team follows an approach where design depth varies by project:
  • Sometimes you’re expected to design key UX surfaces.
  • Other times the right outcome is enabling engineers to reuse existing components and follow documentation.
• In the “bigger ownership” cases, you may effectively own projects from start to finish, including updates and resource management.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate tightly with PMs and engineers to shape product outcomes and UX decisions.
• Provide project-level leadership when design ownership calls for end-to-end responsibility.
• Support and edit product team design decisions (design is treated as a team-owned capability).
• Contribute to design system management as part of equipping the broader team.
• Help tackle hiring/talent product challenges, such as improving complex coordination workflows (e.g., scheduling and interview load balancing).

Requirements

• Experienced product designer capable of making the right amount of design investment per project.
• Strong ability to collaborate across roles in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Demonstrated design thinking oriented toward real product outcomes.
