About the role
Role overview
As a Senior Product Designer at Ashby, you’ll be a versatile designer who can also operate like a product partner, consultant, and design systems contributor. The team uses a principled approach to design: you’ll do deep product design when needed, but also know when design work should be minimal and engineers can reuse existing components and follow guidance.
What you’ll work on
- Help rethink how modern software is designed and contribute to the product experience.
- Work within a product team where design and product ownership are closely integrated (fuzzy role boundaries).
- Contribute to design challenges end-to-end, including providing project updates and managing resources when appropriate.
- Support and/or lead design system management as part of enabling the whole product team to make better design decisions.
How the team works
- Product teams typically include a PM, a designer, and ~4–5 engineers.
- You may collaborate in a way that blends PM, design, and consulting responsibilities depending on the project.
- The culture is high-autonomy, IC-focused, and emphasizes an almost no-meeting cadence.
Requirements / qualifications
- “Design enough” depth to understand how much design is truly needed per project and when to guide vs. build.
- Ability to collaborate with engineers and influence product decisions beyond traditional design deliverables.
- Comfort owning projects from beginning to end when the situation calls for it.
Nice to haves
- Experience supporting or managing a design system.
- Experience working in fast-growing startups and environments with fuzzy functional boundaries.
