Senior Product Designer

Role overview

As a Senior Product Designer at Ashby, you’ll be a versatile designer who also collaborates closely with product, engineering, and design systems. The role blends design, product management, consulting, and design system leadership—with a strong emphasis on empowering the product team to make better decisions collectively.

How teams work

• Product teams typically include a Product Manager, a Designer, and ~4–5 engineers.
• Designers work with PMs early, then hand off mocks to engineers.
• Ashby takes a principled approach to deciding when design depth is required vs. when reuse, documentation, or engineering-led solutions are sufficient.

Responsibilities

• Own meaningful product design challenges, contributing from early concept through delivery.
• Provide project updates and help manage resources when design requires end-to-end ownership.
• Equip the broader product team to make better design decisions (including editing/iterating on decisions made by PMs and engineers).
• Help manage and evolve the design system (either directly or as part of the broader design system function).

Requirements

• Experience designing software products in contexts where design scope varies by project.
• Ability to collaborate across product and engineering, acting as a design partner rather than only producing screens.
• Strong judgment about when to design deeply vs. when to enable others through components, documentation, and guidelines.

Nice-to-haves

• Comfort operating in a near-seed-stage culture with fuzzy role boundaries, high autonomy, and an IC-focused, low-meeting environment.
• Interest in building products that improve candidate experience and solve real recruiting workflow problems (e.g., scheduling, interview load balancing, and coordination).
