Senior Principal Software Engineer (Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Engineering)

Role overview

Join Palo Alto Networks as a Senior Principal Software Engineer in Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Engineering. You will lead the evolution of AI-driven developer tools by architecting how intelligence is embedded across the developer lifecycle to improve developer velocity and software quality.

Key missions / responsibilities

• Define the technical vision and own the technical roadmap for AI-enhanced development tools and infrastructure within the CIPE organization.
• Design and implement novel systems using LLMs, static/dynamic analysis, and machine learning to deliver an intelligent developer experience.
• Drive complex, cross-functional initiatives by influencing and aligning multiple engineering organizations and leadership.

Requirements

• Recognized expertise in developer platforms and a passion for using AI to improve engineering efficiency at global scale.
• Experience building and scaling platforms used by thousands of engineers in complex environments.
• Expertise in authentication/authorization: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, token lifecycle management, and zero-trust patterns.
• Hands-on Infrastructure as Code at scale (e.g., Terraform), including module architecture and state management.
• Deep proficiency with a major cloud platform (GCP preferred), including IAM, managed databases, networking, and Workload Identity.
• Recognized expertise in developer platforms, cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
• Proven ability to lead large-scale, cross-organizational technical initiatives from concept to completion.
• 9+ years of relevant software engineering experience with a track record of technical leadership.
• Hands-on experience applying AI/ML/GenAI to complex software engineering problems.
• Ability to influence and align senior leadership (Director/VP level) on technical strategy and roadmaps.
• Strong foundation in application and infrastructure security (e.g., secrets management, supply chain security, secure-by-default platform design).
• Experience operating observability stacks (metrics, logging, alerting) for distributed systems.
• Degree in Computer Science (BS/MS/PhD) or equivalent experience.
