Senior Principal Product Owner

Role Overview

Senior Principal Product Owner to support Amtrak’s digital transformation within a SAFe Agile Release Train (ART). The team delivers automation and innovation for the Labor Management domain, building digital solutions that help frontline employees and improve the customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Act as the voice of the customer by owning and managing the team product backlog.
• Develop and communicate the product vision aligned to business objectives and customer needs.
• Prioritize features and user stories based on business value, customer feedback, and technical feasibility.
• Translate business requirements into user stories, features, and acceptance criteria.
• Partner with Product Management, Engineering, UX, and Architecture across the product lifecycle.
• Coordinate with business leaders and stakeholders to maintain alignment on priorities.
• Collaborate with other Product Owners across the ART.
• Champion SAFe principles and best practices.
• Contribute to roadmap planning, PI Planning, and release milestones.
• Define, monitor, and analyze product success metrics to drive continuous improvement.
• Facilitate communication between business and technical teams to ensure successful delivery.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience as an Agile Product Owner or Product Manager.
• 3+ years Product Ownership/Product Management in a Scaled Agile (SAFe) environment within a large enterprise.
• Strong experience managing product backlogs and prioritizing user stories.
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and the SAFe Framework.
• Experience gathering requirements and writing user stories with acceptance criteria.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; able to make data-driven prioritization decisions.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.

Nice to Have

• SAFe 6.0 Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) Certification or equivalent SAFe product ownership experience.
