Role overview
Join Tiger Data as a Senior Platform Engineer to build and maintain the infrastructure behind managed TimescaleDB cloud services. You’ll work with a team to develop Kubernetes-based clusters, automate database lifecycle operations, and improve observability and monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Kubernetes infrastructure for managed TimescaleDB cloud services
- Automate database lifecycle operations, including:
- deployment
- resizing
- upgrades
- forking
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Handle incident response and perform root-cause analysis
- Improve monitoring and observability for the platform
Requirements
- PostgreSQL experience; comfortable using libraries (not ORM-dependent)
- gRPC & Protobufs: experience defining schemas and building services
- Kubernetes Operators: operator patterns and controller-runtime
- PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB administration in production (migrations, replication, performance tuning)
- CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, automated testing, and deployment pipelines
- Experience with distributed systems and microservice architectures
- Query optimization/tuning and parameter adjustments
- Prometheus and OpenTelemetry/Jaeger for monitoring and distributed tracing
- Strong platform/infrastructure background, including:
- Kubernetes operations (2+ years): building, debugging, scaling
- WAL management and replication (streaming/logical)
- Terraform/Pulumi (or similar) for Infrastructure as Code
- Ability to develop CRDs/controllers and familiarity with client-go
- Go (2+ years in production)
- Linux & Bash expertise
- Software/platform engineering (3+ years)
- Helm chart templating and deployment automation
- Backup/restore and disaster recovery strategies
- kOps experience (Kubernetes lifecycle)
- Familiarity with CNI/CSI plugins (deploy/tune/troubleshoot)
- Experience with self-hosted Kubernetes clusters
Nice to have
- Rust experience (low-latency, memory-efficient Rust) and ECPG
- AWS and/or Azure cloud provider experience (both plus)
- Experience tuning Kubernetes core components (API server, kubelet, scheduler, etc.)
- Background in database-as-a-service or large-scale distributed systems
