Senior Platform Engineer

Role overview

Join Monzo as a Senior Platform Engineer within the Platform Collective. You will build and maintain the infrastructure, tools, and processes that help Monzo’s technology teams succeed, with a focus on Kubernetes clusters and cloud environments.

Key missions

• Build and manage Monzo’s cloud infrastructure supporting the bank’s technology, using tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform, and Go.
• Collaborate with other platform teams to make cloud infrastructure easier to use, reducing complexity and enabling faster resolution of real customer-impacting issues.
• Drive continuous improvement of platform processes and tooling, using software engineering experience to solve problems and operate cloud infrastructure reliably.

Requirements / profile

• Experience working with Kubernetes.
• Experience working with AWS and/or GCP (Monzo primarily runs on AWS, with growing GCP usage).
• Experience with Terraform for managing cloud resources.
• Ability and interest in building platform services (written in Go).
• Strongly typed language experience is a plus; backend software engineering experience is helpful.
• Comfortable operating in a team dealing with ambiguity.
• Inclination toward automation to solve problems.
• Curiosity about systems and willingness to investigate production issues deeply.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Envoy Proxy (RPC service mesh).
• Direct experience with the stated tools is not required; interviews can be completed in any language, and relevant experience may be transferable.
