Senior Platform Engineer

Role: Senior Platform Engineer

You’ll design and build the platform foundation that engineering teams rely on, bridging software development and infrastructure. The role is hands-on and includes leading infrastructure-as-code, operating container platforms on AWS, and supporting a migration from monolithic services to a microservices architecture.

Responsibilities

• Build AWS infrastructure as code using Terraform and Pulumi (reusable modules, safe change management, multi-account/multi-environment patterns)
• Operate and evolve container platforms across ECS and EC2 (cluster architecture, autoscaling, networking, and cost optimization)
• Drive monolith-to-microservices migration (service decomposition, “golden paths” for service scaffolding, CI/CD/deployment patterns, and partnership with product engineering teams)
• Develop internal tooling and automation in a general-purpose language (Python, Go, or TypeScript)—real software, not just configuration
• Advance observability in Datadog (SLOs, dashboards, alerting strategy, distributed tracing, reducing alert noise for humane on-call)
• Lead incident response and post-incident reviews, converting findings into durable platform improvements
• Mentor engineers (design/code reviews and setting platform standards across teams)
• Promote security, compliance, and reliability best practices suitable for a healthcare environment

Requirements

• 10+ years in platform/infrastructure/DevOps/SRE roles with strong software development background
• Deep production experience with Terraform and hands-on experience with Pulumi (or Terraform plus ability to ramp quickly)
• Expert AWS knowledge across compute (ECS, EC2), networking (VPC, load balancing, DNS), IAM, and related services
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or TypeScript (including testing and CI practices)
• Proven experience decomposing monoliths / migrating to microservices (service boundaries, data migration, traffic cutover, rollback strategy)
• Strong observability skills (metrics, logging, tracing, SLO design; Datadog experience preferred)
• Demonstrated leadership (mentoring, cross-team initiatives, clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders)

Nice to Have

• Experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2)
• GitHub Actions (or similar) CI/CD at organization scale
• Release management, deployment gates, and progressive delivery (canary, blue/green)
