Senior PHP Fullstack Software Engineer (BR/ME) Remote - Brazil/Mexico

Role overview

Senior PHP Full-stack Software Engineer (BR/ME) for ThriveCart’s Team & Codebase Editor 2.0. You’ll extend and enhance both backend services and frontend interfaces that power the funnel and onboarding builder—an editor used to create checkout experiences.

Responsibilities

• Extend backend APIs, business logic, and database queries in PHP
• Build and enhance UI components using React and modern JavaScript
• Ship features end-to-end: from requirements through production deployment
• Debug and fix issues across legacy and modern code
• Write automated tests for backend and frontend flows
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Over time: own specific services/endpoints/modules and help migrate legacy PHP/jQuery to modern patterns
• Improve performance, reliability, and scalability
• Mentor engineers via pairing and feedback

Required skills

• 5+ years professional experience building and maintaining web apps at scale
• Strong PHP fundamentals (OOP/MVC), experience with Laravel/Symfony or similar
• Full-stack development experience (PHP backend + JS frontend)
• Comfortable working in legacy PHP code and modernizing it
• Experience with REST APIs, relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and caching systems (Redis/Memcached)
• Ability to write automated tests (PHPUnit, Jest or similar)
• Frontend basics: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Familiar with Git and CI/CD deployment pipelines
• Experience with AI agents and building AI tools/agents
• Pragmatic approach: incremental improvements over rewrites; can explain tradeoffs to non-engineers

Nice to have

• Experience with SaaS or e-commerce platforms
• Migrating legacy PHP apps to modern frameworks
• React (or other modern frontend frameworks)
• Familiarity with microservices, modular architectures, or API-first designs
• Cloud infrastructure experience
