About the role
Role Overview
Join Phantom as a Senior Payroll Analyst (full remote). You will own the accuracy, integrity, and scalability of Phantom’s payroll and benefits processes while partnering with Finance, People/HR, and Legal to ensure compliance and streamlined reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the exactness, integrity, and scalability of all payroll and benefits processes.
- Collaborate with Finance, People (HR), and Legal to design compliant processes so compensation and benefits are recorded accurately and efficiently.
- Manage payroll and benefits reconciliations.
- Support monthly and quarterly close processes.
Requirements
- 6–8+ years owning the end-to-end payroll lifecycle (processing, benefits administration, reconciliation, reporting), ideally in a high-growth or multi-entity environment.
- Proven ability to set up internal controls and maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Deep knowledge of US federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, including multi-state compliance.
- Experience working across integrated payroll/HRIS/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite).
- Hands-on experience with payroll/HRIS platforms (e.g., Rippling, Deel).
- Experience with 401(k) providers (e.g., Fidelity, Empower).
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, People, and Legal.
- Exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and discretion handling confidential data.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with compensation accounting.
- Familiarity with equity systems such as Carta.
