About the role
Role Overview
Senior Next.js Engineer (Frontend Platform) joining Sphere to take ownership of an existing production-grade frontend platform. The application is already migrated to Next.js but needs clearer architecture, standardized patterns, and a more consistent frontend structure—while still delivering new features.
Responsibilities
- Analyze the existing Vercel-hosted Next.js application and identify architectural gaps
- Define and implement a clean, scalable frontend architecture
- Build and maintain a consistent frontend data/API abstraction layer
- Improve performance, maintainability, and scalability
- Refactor fragmented or inconsistent code structures
- Establish consistent patterns across pages, components, and modules
- Continue active feature delivery alongside stabilization work
- Translate requirements with stakeholders into technical implementations
- Use AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery efficiency
Requirements
- 5+ years of frontend development experience
- Production experience with Next.js and React
- Experience with Vercel deployments and CI/CD workflows
- Strong understanding of frontend architecture and system design
- Experience with a headless CMS (WordPress, Contentful, Strapi, etc.)
- Experience designing data fetching strategies: SSR / SSG / ISR / client-side hybrid
- Experience improving existing large-scale codebases
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.)
- Ability to impose structure in fast-moving or loosely organized environments
- Strong communication with non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience scaling Next.js applications on Vercel
- Performance optimization expertise (e.g., Core Web Vitals, caching strategies)
Contract Details
- Duration: 3–4 months (possible extension)
- Work model: Fully remote (immediate start preferred)
