Senior Manager, Test Engineering

Role Overview

Senior Manager, Test Engineering (Engineering Delivery – Quality & Automation) at Storable. This is a hands-on people and technical leadership role focused on leading a shift-left quality transformation across the engineering organization. You will build and operate enterprise-scale testing platforms and enablement programs that move quality earlier in the SDLC.

What You’ll Own

• Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and own the shift-left testing strategy with product, platform, SRE, and security
  • Lead a test platform/enablement team (engineering managers, senior ICs, SDETs)
  • Translate business and reliability goals into a roadmap for quality platforms, tooling, and practices
  • Define and track quality & reliability KPIs (e.g., defect escape rate, flaky test rate, MTTR, change fail rate, performance SLOs)

• Test Platform & Tooling

  • Design and evolve enterprise testing platforms for:
    • API and service-level testing
    • Contract and integration testing
    • UI/E2E automation where it adds leverage
    • Performance, load, and resilience testing
  • Partner with SRE/DevOps to integrate testing into CI/CD including:
    • Gating and quality thresholds
    • Test orchestration and parallelization
    • Environment and test-data management
  • Provide self-service frameworks/templates for teams using Python, Java, and Go in microservices / multi-tenant SaaS

• Reliability, Resilience & Performance

  • Work with SRE and product engineering to design for reliability and resilience
  • Establish practices/tooling for:
    • Performance & capacity testing (service/system)
    • Fault injection / chaos experiments for critical paths
    • Regression detection tied to SLOs and error budgets
  • Integrate tests with observability (logs, metrics, traces) for better triage and signal-to-noise

• Shift-Left Enablement & Change Management

  • Drive adoption of new testing practices/tools across teams
  • Build enablement programs (standards, playbooks, training, office hours, communities of practice)
  • Coach engineering managers/tech leads on testability, design for quality, and pragmatic automation
  • Remove systemic blockers to shift-left (environments, data, tooling, ownership, incentives)

• People & Operational Excellence

  • Hire, grow, and mentor engineering managers and senior ICs in test/platform or SRE disciplines
  • Build a continuous improvement culture using data and blameless post-mortems
  • Own operational health of test platforms (availability, performance, cost) and partner on capacity/reliability

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years in software engineering / quality engineering
• 4+ years leading engineering teams (people management)

• Experience leading test/platform or SRE/DevOps teams
• Strong familiarity with CI/CD quality gates, orchestration, and observability integrations
