Senior Manager of Software Engineering

Role overview

Join Affirm as a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead the Data and Storage Services team in a remote-first environment. You’ll manage storage-related engineering efforts and drive execution across technical roadmaps for multiple concurrent programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Online Storage team, overseeing development of frameworks, systems, and tools for new Affirm products.
• Collaborate with tech leads, program managers, and other engineering managers on:
  • Security
  • Tools
  • Architecture
  • Planning and delivery of multiple concurrent projects
• Drive multi-quarter roadmaps and make technical/business trade-offs aligned with Affirm’s vision and current needs.

Requirements

• Proven experience operating low-latency, high-throughput storage and caching platforms in production, including:
  • Redis or Memcached
  • DynamoDB
  • MySQL / PostgreSQL / TiDB / Cockroach / Vitess
  • Multi-region topologies and cross-region replication strategies
• 10+ years of experience managing multiple diverse and inclusive teams and delivering large cross-functional technical programs.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a growth mindset.
• Ability for mentorship, cross-functional execution, and hands-on contributions.
• Deep expertise in cache architecture and lifecycle management, including:
  • Tiered cache design
  • Eviction and TTL policies
  • Warm-up/priming strategies
  • Consistency models
  • Backpressure
  • Thundering-herd protection
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in the data infrastructure domain; passion for leading technical teams and contributing to Open Source.
• Track record of stakeholder management, ownership, and successful delivery.
