Senior Manager of Product Design

Role overview

Join Discord as a Senior Manager of Product Design to lead a design team focused on improving user engagement and retention. You’ll shape product strategy for core social systems and build a high-quality, people-led design culture.

Key missions

• Lead and manage designers working on challenges related to voice calls and social feedback loops, ensuring high-quality output.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product and Engineering to translate the Engagement strategy into user experiences.
• Develop and mentor the team by instilling ownership, impact, and a strong culture of quality.

Requirements

• First-principles thinker who collaborates to find pragmatic solutions.
• 4+ years as a Design Manager and/or experience leading at least 3 Product Designers.
• Comfortable in ambiguous environments; excited to develop strategies and processes for both product and internal team structures.
• Enjoys people leadership, including recruiting, training, development, organizational design, and leading by example.
• Strong partnership history with Engineering and Product Management leadership.
• Proven ability to influence product teams/organizations, including a portfolio of shipped work you designed and/or directed.
• Strong craft/quality standards (able to identify gaps in visual or interaction design and when work needs more investment).
• Willing to contribute hands-on when needed; design leadership without being “above” the work.

Nice-to-haves / additional signals

• 10+ years in multi-platform digital products as a Product Designer (or similar), especially mobile consumer products.
• Fluency with prototyping tools to demonstrate product concepts.
