Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Machine Learning Engineer on Zillow’s Agentic AI team, building agentic, multimodal AI experiences for millions of customers in real estate. You’ll bridge frontier research and scalable engineering to deliver trustworthy, safety-aware AI agents.

Responsibilities

• Develop large-scale, fault-tolerant multimodal agentic experiences used by millions
• Design and build multiple agent interaction modes, including Voice AI and Deep Research
• Pioneer evaluation frameworks, tracing systems, and safety guardrails for trustworthy AI agents
• Convert emerging agentic paradigms into tangible product innovation
• Lead complex, multi-team initiatives bridging applied research and production-scale engineering
• Distill research findings and AI system architecture into actionable insights for executives and cross-functional partners

Requirements

• M.S. or higher (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; emphasis on building products with frontier multimodal LLMs
• 5+ years of experience deploying large-scale ML models; with the most recent 2–3 years focused on agent-based systems, multi-agent collaboration, or similar paradigms
• Experience with engaging dialogue systems (long conversations, context-aware tool selection, compliant response generation)
• Ability to build AI services for extremely high scale (hundreds of millions of daily interactions) with high availability, low latency, and robust fault tolerance
• Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph, Agents SDK, AutoGen, plus production ML infrastructure
• Strong communication skills; influence technical direction and present to executive leadership
