Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Personalization

Role overview

Join Spotify’s personalization team at the intersection of machine learning, music understanding, and user experience. You’ll build and ship LLM-based personalization capabilities that power adaptive listening experiences at global scale.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, evaluate, and ship LLM-based solutions for more adaptive control over listening.
• Work on prompted playlist experiences, focusing on music fulfillment and session generation.
• Collaborate with product, design, user research, data science, and engineering to deliver high-impact features.
• Prototype new ML approaches and bring them into production at scale.
• Build and improve systems that connect artists and fans through personalized, meaningful experiences.
• Promote best practices for ML system design, testing, evaluation, and deployment.
• Contribute to the machine learning practitioner community within Spotify.

Who you are (requirements)

• Strong experience in machine learning, with emphasis on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and generative AI.
• Ability to apply theory to build production-ready ML systems.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying end-to-end ML systems at scale.
• Familiarity with LLM-based systems and improvement techniques using human feedback, e.g.:
  • reinforcement fine-tuning
  • DPO
  • or similar approaches
• Experience designing modular ML architectures and writing technical specifications with product teams.
• Experience with large-scale distributed data processing tools such as Apache Beam or Apache Spark.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.

Nice to have

• Experience with scalable ML systems serving hundreds of millions of users (implied by role scope).
