Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Role Overview

Join Dropbox as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design, build, deploy, and refine highly reliable AI agents at massive scale. You’ll help power Dropbox Dash’s agentic search and autonomous organization capabilities, and contribute to the broader Dropbox AI strategy.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and refine AI agents operating at massive scale.
• Lead end-to-end ML system design, including:
  • fine-tuning and advanced prompting
  • inference optimization
  • production monitoring
  • safety, alignment, and evaluation frameworks
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Infra, and Frontend teams to translate ambiguous user needs into concrete AI capabilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to overall AI strategy.

Requirements

• Deep familiarity with LLM architectures and hands-on experience with ML libraries such as PyTorch and/or JAX.
• Extensive experience with large-scale distributed data systems and high-throughput production environments.
• Python proficiency (required).
• At least 8+ years software engineering experience, with 5+ years focused on production-scale AI/ML systems.
• Strong analytical skills and a bias to action for ambiguous technical challenges.
• Experience improving model performance and cost via:
  • inference optimization, model distillation, or fine-tuning
• Systems-level experience and comfort building surrounding infrastructure using Go or C/C++.
• Experience with complex ML domains such as Search, Ranking, or Recommender Systems.
• Hands-on experience with autonomous agent frameworks, multi-step planning, tool-use/function calling, and advanced RAG.
• Track record taking AI products from concept to launch at massive scale or leading multiple 0→1 cycles.

Nice to Have

• PhD focused on Deep Learning, NLP, or Reinforcement Learning (e.g., RLHF/RLAIF).
• Strong emphasis on safety/alignment/evaluation methodology for agentic systems.
