About the role

Role Overview

Zensar is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer with Cloud & DevOps experience for a Full-Time position in North Carolina (100% Remote).

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Java Spring Boot microservices deployed on Red Hat OpenShift.
Build and integrate event-driven systems using Kafka and Redis (stream processing + caching).
Implement and operate CI/CD and DevOps workflows (Git-based, Helm, GitOps).
Support multi-environment deployments across DEV / TEST / UAT / PROD.
Ensure strong backend performance, scalability, and resource utilization.
Debug production issues, perform bug fixes, and support refactoring/redesign.
Collaborate on end-to-end web application lifecycle tasks (design, development, deployment, maintenance).
Work with Agile/Scrum processes and Jira for tracking.
Meet security and compliance expectations, particularly HIPAA/PHI (regulated environments).

Requirements (Must Have)

Hands-on Java experience building Spring Boot microservices on Red Hat OpenShift.
AWS cloud services experience, specifically SQS and Lambda.
Solid experience with Kafka and Redis for event-driven processing and caching.
Hands-on CI/CD and DevOps practices including:
- Git-based workflows
- Helm charts
- ArgoCD / GitOps
- Multi-environment deployments (DEV/TEST/UAT/PROD)
Frontend exposure with React and/or Angular and ability to integrate with backend systems.
Strong SQL knowledge using SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL.
Understanding of application performance tuning, scalability, and resource utilization.
Ability to debug, fix, and help refactor/redesign existing applications.
Knowledge of:
- OOP and design patterns
- Web application development lifecycle
Familiarity with Agile and Scrum.
Working knowledge of Jira and Git.
Exposure to HIPAA/PHI security/compliance.
Strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.

Nice to Have

Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor.
Experience in prompt engineering (system + user prompts).
Advanced exposure to cloud-native/containerized architectures.
Experience optimizing complex microservices integrations.
Prior experience in highly regulated domains such as healthcare, insurance, or financial services.
