Senior Java Engineer (m/f/d) - Team Search

Role overview

Join Flix’s customer-facing Search team in the Demand Division. The team owns the first crucial step in the booking funnel—helping users find the right trip quickly and intuitively without overwhelming them—while handling millions of search requests per day worldwide.

You’ll work in an autonomous, cross-functional squad (Product Owner, backend/frontend engineers, plus data & UX partners and principal engineers) with strong ownership from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance the booking funnel Search experience for Web, App, and external partners.
• Generate and serve travel inventory across 3,000+ destinations in 40+ countries.
• Write SOLID, maintainable, testable, scalable and reliable code.
• Design components and integrations with scalability, maintainability, and reliability in mind.
• Lead adoption of better engineering practices and improve team workflows.
• Plan and drive tech debt pay-down and strategies to reduce recurring debt.
• Ensure services are observable; design monitoring strategies for new components.
• Support the team’s CI/CD environment and improve release quality.

Requirements

• 7+ years of commercial experience as a Java Engineer.
• Strong Java/JVM framework experience, e.g. Micronaut or Spring Boot.
• Solution-oriented mindset focused on turning business vision into technical outcomes.
• Experience with Kubernetes (k8s) and AWS.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL).
• Solid experience with distributed messaging systems (e.g., Kafka).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or relevant equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• OpenSearch / Elasticsearch.
• Redis and Terraform.
• Familiarity with CI/CD best practices (unit/integration testing, GitLab CI).
• Experience building scalable systems for large volumes of requests/data.
