About the role

Role Overview

Senior Java Developer (100% Remote) for a freight & mobility technology team focused on modernizing railroad logistics. You will lead technical and architectural decisions while building and delivering distributed systems that improve efficiency and enable reliable freight movement.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of scalable distributed systems supporting core business operations
Drive architectural decisions and evaluate technical trade-offs against business needs
Develop APIs, automation, and internal tools to improve integration and system performance
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software
Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and DevOps best practices
Design and operate systems across cloud platforms (AWS and/or OpenShift) and other distributed environments
Mentor and guide engineers to improve team growth and technical excellence
Support production systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance

Requirements

Minimum 8 years of software development (or related experience)
Strong Java development experience
Experience building and operating distributed systems in production
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or OpenShift
Experience with CI/CD, Git workflows, and DevOps practices
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field

Nice to Have

Familiarity with frameworks such as Spring Boot, and front-end stacks (React or Angular) or Node.js
Experience with messaging frameworks such as Kafka and/or RabbitMQ and event-driven architectures
