Senior IT Project Manager

Role Overview

Senior IT Project Manager (remote, based in the United States) responsible for planning, execution, and governance of complex enterprise technology initiatives. The role strengthens project delivery practices using advanced scheduling, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development, and portfolio-level coordination, while coaching project managers to improve operational maturity.

Responsibilities

• Define and implement IT project scheduling standards, methodologies, and best practices across a portfolio.
• Own and maintain master project schedules using Microsoft Project Server (ensure accuracy and alignment with business objectives).
• Develop, refine, and govern WBS and WBS dictionaries.
• Facilitate collaboration sessions to break down scope into actionable work packages with PMs, business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams.
• Analyze schedules to identify dependencies, critical paths, resource constraints, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Coach project managers on schedule development, task sequencing, dependency management, baseline planning, and reporting.
• Lead selected complex IT projects (e.g., technology implementations, service launches, platform upgrades, software enhancements).
• Create project plans, manage risks/issues, oversee change control, and ensure delivery against scope/timeline/quality.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams across business, development, infrastructure, security, operations, and vendors.
• Provide advanced reporting and analytical insights to leadership with status updates and corrective-action recommendations.
• Continuously improve project management capabilities via lessons learned, process enhancements, templates, and standardized practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education/experience).
• 10+ years managing IT projects in enterprise technology environments.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
• Strong experience with Microsoft Project Server, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), and IT project scheduling best practices.
• Experience analyzing program/project status and presenting documentation/insights to leadership.
• Knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) and operational delivery processes.
• Experience managing complex initiatives involving software, infrastructure, integrations, or service enhancements.
• Required certifications: DoD 8140.03 Work Role (802) IT Project Manager – Basic; ITIL Foundation required within three months of hire; PMP preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to influence stakeholders.
