Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Role Overview

LiveKit is hiring a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support the cloud foundation that powers its real-time products. You’ll join a small team focused on reliability, networking, and shared platform primitives (e.g., CockroachDB, NATS, Nebula), with an emphasis on reducing reliability debt.

Responsibilities

• Ramp up on LiveKit’s global architecture and identify where reliability debt exists across systems.
• Perform Product SRE work inside the product codebase:
  • load balancing, load shedding
  • instrumentation and observability
  • scalability and efficiency improvements
• Build self-service platform tooling (frameworks/libraries) so product teams can achieve reliability goals without Infra bottlenecks.
• Participate in on-call rotation and address recurring reliability patterns.
• Provide systems-level architectural input and help drive technical decisions.

Requirements

• Strong production engineering experience writing Go.
• Kubernetes expertise (including internals and networking), not just day-to-day operations.
• Ability to work directly within product codebases, not only around them.
• Strong debugging approach: look beyond dashboards to understand system behavior.
• Track record building and/or operating production distributed systems at scale.
• Clear communication: explain complex technical concepts to other engineers.
• Fast learner who can pick up new languages/tools as needed.

Nice to Have

• Experience with CockroachDB, NATS, or similar distributed systems.
• Nebula or WireGuard (overlay networking) experience.
• Google SRE (or equivalent) background.
• Open source contributions, especially infra or developer tooling.
• Experience in real-time, audio/video, or low-latency systems.
