About the role

Role Overview

Senior Fullstack Software Engineer (Backend)

Design and develop software modules for next-generation mobility services, including Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), Transport-as-a-Service (TaaS), and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV). Build both functional prototypes and production implementations for Volkswagen Group products.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance the robustness and resiliency of existing and upcoming microservices
  • Deliver user interfaces on top of services such as Fleet, Trip, Map, Mission Control, Terminal Operations, Remote Operations, and Shared Services infrastructure
  • Design, architect, and support a scalable UI infrastructure that improves developer productivity
  • Implement strong product quality, performance, and security practices
  • Build multi-regional, highly available, and highly scalable cloud services
  • Develop services primarily in Java/Kotlin and web UIs in React/TypeScript
  • Potentially support on-vehicle software in C++ when needed
  • Collaborate with cross-geographical teams

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years designing, developing, and prototyping web-scale distributed systems and related open-source components
  • Proficiency on the backend in at least one of: Java / Kotlin / Python
  • Proficiency on the frontend in at least one of: React / TypeScript
  • Programming ability in Kotlin, Java, and C++
  • Experience with backend technologies: Redis, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, SNS, SQS, ApacheMQ
  • Understanding of core computer science algorithms and data structures
  • Experience with REST and gRPC APIs with scalable authentication strategies
  • Experience deploying/managing infrastructure in public cloud environments such as AWS or GCP
  • Experience with Docker / Kubernetes / Istio
  • Experience building in Agile software environments

Nice-to-Haves / Additional Skills

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks
  • Experience with test automation frameworks

Work & Travel

  • Readiness for international business trips to ADMT GmbH / Volkswagen AG
  • Flexibility to travel within the US and Europe

Location Preference

  • Candidates residing on the EAST COAST are strongly preferred.
