About the role
Role Overview
Senior Fullstack Software Engineer (Backend) Design and develop software modules for next-generation mobility services such as Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), Transport-as-a-Service (TaaS), and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) (e.g., robo-taxis and transporters). You will build both functional prototypes and production-ready implementations for Volkswagen Group products.
Responsibilities
- Enhance the robustness and resiliency of existing and new microservices
- Build user interfaces that sit atop mobility/platform services such as Fleet Services, Trip Services, Map Services, Mission Control, Terminal Operations, Remote Operations, and Shared Services
- Design, architect, and support a scalable UI infrastructure that improves developer productivity
- Implement strong quality, performance, and security practices
- Develop multi-regional, highly available, highly scalable cloud services
- Develop web UI components using React/TypeScript
- Potentially contribute to on-vehicle software (C++) when needed
- Collaborate with cross-geographical teams; work in an agile environment
Required Skills / Qualifications
- 7+ years designing, developing, and prototyping web-scale distributed systems and related open-source components
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills; conceptual thinking
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a distributed team
- Demonstrated engineering rigor and ability to iterate quickly with purposeful planning
- Proficiency in at least one backend language: Java / Kotlin / Python
- Proficiency in at least one frontend: React / TypeScript
- Programming ability in Kotlin, Java, and C++
- Backend technologies: Redis, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, SNS, SQS, Apache ActiveMQ
- Understanding of core CS algorithms and data structures
- Experience with Docker / Kubernetes / Istio
- Experience building and maintaining REST and gRPC APIs with scalable authentication strategies
- Experience deploying/managing infrastructure on AWS or GCP
- Experience working in agile software environments
Nice to Have
- Experience with machine learning frameworks
- Experience with test automation frameworks
Location / Work Style
- Strongly preferred: candidates residing on the East Coast
- Flexibility for international business trips within the US and Europe to visit ADMT GmbH and Volkswagen AG
