Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

Role overview

Hiring a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to own end-to-end features across the stack. You’ll split your time between building customer-facing UI (dashboards and image-editing UI) and working on backend APIs and infrastructure.

Reporting to a hands-on Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll help modernize the stack and raise the technical bar through code review, thoughtful improvements, and strong documentation.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, and ship full-stack features end-to-end (from API design to accessible UI).
• Drive front-end architecture: component patterns, state management, performance, and design-system evolution.
• Champion testing rigor across front-end and account-management code by setting patterns and making coverage a team habit.
• Write clean, scalable backend code: build and maintain Python APIs, collaborating on data modeling and GCP infrastructure.
• Use AI coding tools daily (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Gemini) for prompting, reviewing, and refining code.
• Act as an L3 escalation as part of a low-volume third-level on-call rotation (rare escalations; manager has had no pages since late 2024).
• Mentor and elevate teammates via code review, pairing, and excellent documentation.

What we’re looking for

• Substantial full-stack experience with the ability to work independently across the stack and lead technical decisions.
• Cloud proficiency on at least one major platform (majority of work is in GCP), including the ability to design, deploy, and operate production workloads.
• Strong front-end expertise with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript; strong UI craft (spacing, hierarchy, responsiveness, accessibility).
• Python proficiency (or ability to become productive quickly); welcomes strong developers from Node/Go/Java eager to move to Python.
• Relational database experience (e.g., PostgreSQL) and REST/GraphQL API design.
• Comfort using AI coding assistants in real production work, with the ability to explain where they help and where they don’t.
• Ability to drive features to completion across the stack without constant handoffs.
• Strong written and verbal communication to keep US and Japan-based teammates aligned asynchronously.

Nice to have

• Python web frameworks: FastAPI, Django, Flask.
• Modern React tooling: Next.js, Tailwind, shadcn/ui.
• Basic DevOps/CI pipeline literacy.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) into production applications.
• Background in design systems / design-engineering collaboration.
• Interest in image/video processing, computer graphics, or web performance.
