Senior Frontend Software Engineer

Role overview

Join KAYAK as a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to build innovative travel tools and features. You’ll have end-to-end ownership of the UI, make architectural decisions, and partner with other teams to simplify the travel shopping experience.

Key missions

• Design and develop innovative travel tools for KAYAK users.
• Own the user interface, including testing, monitoring, and debugging/troubleshooting.
• Make architectural decisions and build prototypes for new functionalities.

Requirements

• Strong experience building web UI layouts with CSS and HTML.
• Advanced JavaScript skills, ideally with a modern frontend framework/library (KAYAK uses React; Angular/Vue experience also counts).
• Understanding of browser performance considerations.
• 4+ years of meaningful experience building web applications.
• Ability to estimate effort accurately and execute with pace.
• Work independently with minimal oversight.
• Use metrics to validate decisions.
• Communicate effectively with key stakeholders; translate technical topics for non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated judgment in software architecture and ability to produce scalable, high-quality work.
• Ability to debug issues in a full-stack environment.
• Experience leveraging AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar).
• Experience in an object-oriented language such as Java or C#.
• Leadership across teams and business functions.

• Experience using AI tools to improve software quality and delivery.
