About the role
Role Overview
Join TRM Labs as a Senior Frontend Platform Engineer on a small, fast-growing Frontend Engineering team. You will build the core frontend platform and visualization infrastructure that powers TRM’s investigative workflows, including interactive graph exploration and data-dense investigative interfaces.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the visualization platform powering TRM’s investigative UI (graph exploration and large-scale data visualization).
- Build high-performance rendering systems using Canvas, WebGL, and GPU-accelerated rendering to visualize complex datasets.
- Create reusable visualization libraries, SDKs, and frontend platform primitives for teams across TRM.
- Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews to improve architecture, performance, and maintainability.
- Develop product-informed understanding of crypto and blockchain investigation workflows.
- Help define next-generation data exploration tools for investigators and financial institutions.
Requirements
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript fundamentals; experience building large-scale frontend systems.
- Experience building data-dense web applications (analytics platforms, visualization tools, or mapping systems).
- Hands-on experience with Canvas, WebGL, or GPU-accelerated rendering.
- Experience with visualization libraries such as D3, PixiJS, Three.js, or similar.
- Experience with graph/network visualization systems (e.g., D3-force, Cytoscape.js, vis.js, Sigma.js, etc.).
- Familiarity with graph layouts (force-directed, hierarchical, radial).
- Performance optimization in complex UIs using virtualization, viewport culling, Web Workers, and large-dataset rendering techniques.
- Experience designing reusable frontend systems (SDKs, component libraries, developer platforms).
- Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures/algorithms).
- Experience with React and modern frontend frameworks.
Team / Work Details
- Weekly sprint schedule; role expects ownership as a technical anchor.
- Collaboration with product, design, and engineering partners in data platform teams.
- Timezone: mix of EST/PST with at least 6 hours overlap with PST (8am–2pm PST).
- On-call rotation: roughly one week every 16 weeks; typically no wake-up-style alerts, focused on triaging frontend issues from support channels (sometimes backend-impacting issues).
