Senior Frontend Engineer (Team Lead)

Role overview

Lead the development and evolution of Meltwater’s frontend platform, combining hands-on engineering with team leadership and org-wide technical influence. Own delivery quality and drive the UI’s broader technical direction across initiatives like design systems, performance, and frontend architecture.

What you’ll work on

• Lead a team of frontend engineers: own delivery, execution quality, and technical direction
• Own complex frontend systems end-to-end: from design through long-term production health
• Drive org-wide initiatives across design systems, application performance, and frontend standards
• Define and evolve frontend architecture to support scalability, reliability, and rapid iteration
• Set and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, and maintainability
• Identify and fix systemic production issues, especially performance and reliability
• Build and scale interactive, data-heavy applications and AI-driven workflows
• Partner cross-functionally with design, backend, and AI/ML teams to shape product direction and UX
• Guide long-term UI technical strategy and key architectural decisions

Level expectations

• Act as a technical leader for frontend and influence org-level decisions
• Own outcomes beyond implementation (system health, performance, and developer productivity)
• Lead large, ambiguous, cross-team initiatives without predefined solutions
• Mentor and develop engineers; raise the bar for quality, performance, and accessibility
• Proactively identify platform gaps and lead remediation efforts

Must-haves

• Expertise in React and TypeScript, including architectural decision-making at scale
• Proven experience leading frontend teams or acting as a technical lead
• Track record owning and delivering large-scale, production-critical frontend systems
• Experience driving cross-team/org-level initiatives (e.g., design systems, platform work, performance improvements)
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture, performance tradeoffs, and scalability
• Experience integrating via GraphQL and/or REST APIs
• Exceptional debugging across browser, performance, and production environments
• Demonstrated ownership of codebase health, reliability, and engineering standards
• Ability to operate independently in ambiguous problem spaces
• Strong communication skills to influence technical decisions across teams

Nice to have

• Production experience with Next.js (or similar)
• Experience with monorepos and large shared codebases
• Building AI-powered or data-intensive products
• Familiarity with frontend observability/performance tooling
• Strong product sense and ability to balance technical and UX tradeoffs
