About the role

Role Overview

Senior Frontend Engineer (Performance) on the Viewer team at Chaturbate. You’ll specialize in frontend performance tuning and optimization for high-traffic experiences across search, video, site navigation, and other core areas.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, triage, and lead resolution of performance and stability issues, including:
- Unnecessary renders, long tasks, memory leaks
- Forced reflows, layout shifts, expensive painting
- Excessive JavaScript execution
Investigate how browsers execute and render the application; profile production bottlenecks and memory usage.
Define and improve measurable performance targets using:
- Real-user monitoring (RUM), Lighthouse, synthetic testing
- Chrome DevTools traces
- Product-level business metrics
Establish performance budgets, dashboards, and alerts.
Improve organizational performance through technical talks, workshops, documentation, mentoring, code reviews, and reusable tooling.
As the role evolves, contribute to other high-impact frontend performance initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent practical experience.
Deep expertise in modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, Svelte, etc.), TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Experience operating in a frontend-heavy, high-traffic consumer web application.
Expert proficiency with Chrome DevTools and performance tooling, including:
- React Profiler
- Lighthouse
- CPU profiles, flame charts, network waterfalls
- Performance traces
Senior-level technical leadership: independently identify high-impact work and influence architecture decisions.
Strong understanding of browser internals (JS execution, style calculation, layout, painting, rasterization, compositing).
Proven experience improving Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) using real-user data.
Hands-on memory leak diagnosis (heap snapshots, allocation profiles, GC analysis, detached DOM-node detection).
Ability to optimize rendering/hydration, bundle size, code splitting, main-thread work, third-party scripts, and frontend asset delivery.
