Senior Frontend Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Frontend Engineer (2nd UI developer on the product) at Level. You’ll own a large portion of the frontend surface area in a small team, working on real-time, complex UI challenges.

What You’ll Work On

• Scale / Real-time UI: Build interfaces that surface real-time data across a distributed network of user devices.
• Remote Control: Create low-latency UIs backed by WebRTC peer-to-peer connections over unpredictable networks.
• Automation Engine: Develop a visual workflow engine UI for complex, multi-step IT automations.
• AI Virtual Technician: Shape and ship the interface for an AI-powered feature launched this year.
• Additional UI areas: Dashboards, data visualization, forms, real-time updates, and new product surfaces as they emerge.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain frontend experiences for real-time and distributed-system-backed features.
• Deliver high-quality UX despite significant surface area and fast iteration cycles.
• Work effectively with async communication and minimal supervision.
• Own key parts of the frontend end-to-end alongside one other UI developer.

Requirements

• Senior-level JavaScript and deep frontend expertise.
• Strong experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, and GraphQL (or the ability to pick them up quickly via fundamentals).
• Extensive use of AI tools such as Codex and/or Claude, with the ability to verify correctness and fix outputs.
• Builder mindset: you want to shape the product, not only execute predefined tasks.
• Independence: you don’t need to be managed; you identify what needs doing and deliver.

Nice-to-Haves / Fit Signals

• Experience working on complex UI on top of distributed systems.
• Comfort with context switching and owning broad frontend responsibilities (dashboards, automation UI, AI UI, real-time updates).
• Ability to debug challenging issues (e.g., WebRTC bugs) quickly and deliver iteratively.
