Senior Frontend Developer, 3D - Web

Role overview

Senior Frontend Engineer on Zillow’s CMX Immersion Team, building media-rich web experiences for 3D Home and Interactive Floor Plans. You’ll shape how millions of shoppers explore homes online by collaborating with product, design, backend, research, and computer vision/ML teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain immersive, media-rich web experiences using React, Redux, and TypeScript.
• Implement and optimize interactive 3D rendering in the browser with Three.js, React Three Fiber, and WebGL.
• Partner cross-functionally (computer vision/ML, backend, product, design) to define requirements, iterate on prototypes, and ship end-to-end features.
• Influence frontend architecture and technical direction to keep 3D experiences scalable, maintainable, and reliable.
• Improve web performance, accessibility, and reliability, including work on server-side rendering, plus monitoring/observability.
• Work with infrastructure/tooling as needed, including Node.js, GitLab pipelines, AWS (e.g., S3, CloudFront), webpack/code splitting, and Sentry.
• Contribute to automated testing/quality, including end-to-end tests with Cypress or Playwright.
• Mentor engineers and help foster an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Strong 3D rendering experience with Three.js and React Three Fiber, plus deep understanding of WebGL, GPU rendering pipelines, shaders, and performance optimization.
• Extensive frontend experience with JavaScript (ideally TypeScript), React, and Redux for complex user-facing web apps.
• Comfortable working with GraphQL (e.g., Apollo Client).

Nice to have / additional signals

• Experience with SSR, observability/monitoring, and performance/accessibility improvements.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and cloud tooling (GitLab pipelines, AWS services).
• Experience with E2E testing using Cypress or Playwright.
