Role Overview
Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning (Remote)
Reporting to the Manager of Financial Planning, this role drives the hospital’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. You will partner closely with department heads, finance colleagues, and senior leadership to deliver data-driven insights that support informed decisions and financial stewardship.
Responsibilities
Monthly Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Perform variance analysis comparing actual results vs. budget, and explain deviations.
- Support departments with budget management and financial planning.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Lead complex analyses including detailed variance analysis and trend forecasting.
- Create financial dashboards for senior leadership with key KPIs and metrics.
- Analyze patient volume trends and track volume KPIs using reporting tools.
- Identify root causes of volume fluctuations and translate findings into decision-ready insights.
Stakeholder Communication
- Act as a liaison between finance and other departments.
- Communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders clearly and effectively.
- Resolve budget-related inquiries and issues.
Project Management
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver projects within budget and timeline.
- Assist with developing and enforcing financial policies and procedures.
- Ensure reporting and processes comply with organizational policies.
- Lead and participate in special financial projects as needed.
Leadership & Mentoring
- Recommend improvements to financial processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Mentor and guide junior financial analysts.
- Lead cross-functional financial initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting (accredited program).
- 5–7 years of financial analyst experience, preferably in healthcare.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements (e.g., normalized P&L, balance sheets).
- Ability to extract and analyze large datasets to find trends, patterns, and anomalies.
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas).
- Strong variance analysis capability.
- Healthcare financial knowledge and hospital financial statement concepts (e.g., volume, FTE, supplies expense).
- Proficiency in PowerPoint to present analysis based on large datasets.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Healthcare.
- CPA or Certified Healthcare Financial Professional.
