Senior Engineering Manager (Upstart Bank)

Role Overview

Join Upstart Bank as a Senior Engineering Manager to lead one or more engineering teams responsible for a critical area of the bank platform. You’ll translate product, regulatory, and operational priorities into technical plans and drive reliable execution across complex systems—helping build a modern bank platform from the ground up.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Mathematics (or equivalent practical experience).
• 8+ years engineering experience, including 3+ years engineering management.
• Experience leading teams through complex, cross-functional platform/infrastructure initiatives.
• Track record operating in regulated, high-control, high-reliability environments where quality, controls, auditability, and change management are critical.
• Strong technical background contributing to architecture and technical direction for distributed systems and/or cloud platforms.
• Experience with core financial infrastructure, such as:
  • ledgering
  • payments
  • deposits
  • funding systems
  • reporting and financial integrations
• Experience building platforms supporting internal controls, audits, and reliable operations.
• Experience with platform modernization, core-system launches, vendor integrations, or major infrastructure transformations.
• Proven ability to develop senior engineers/tech leads/emerging leaders.
• Ability to balance speed, quality, reliability, and compliance in high-stakes environments.
