Senior Engineering Manager

Role overview

Join sofatutor as a Senior Engineering Manager in a hands-on leadership role. You will lead a team of 10 full-stack engineers and partner with cross-functional stakeholders to drive the success of the core product.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the engineering team, owning structure, leadership, and growth of engineers.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Content, and technical leadership to shape roadmap, prioritization, and implementation.
• Ensure transparency around technical decisions, dependencies, and risks, and proactively drive resolutions.
• Refine engineering workflows to support outcomes, quality, and sustainable delivery.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of software development processes, including testing, deployment, and modern delivery practices.
• 2+ years experience as an Engineering Manager, including people leadership for 5+ engineers.
• Practical enthusiasm for AI in engineering—able to make it work in practice.
• Proven experience hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers (coaching, feedback cycles, growth frameworks).
• Enough technical depth to lead architecture discussions and maintain code quality.
• Solid hands-on experience in larger web development projects.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Ruby on Rails and/or JavaScript.
