Senior Engineering Manager (Shopping Ads)

Role overview

Join Reddit as a Senior Engineering Manager for the Shopping Ads Engineering team. You will lead a high-performing group of software and machine learning engineers, operating as both an engineering manager and hands-on technical leader to drive Dynamic Product Ads and Product Listing Ads.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor engineers (software + ML), with strong technical management and development.
• Drive technical execution for:
  • Dynamic Product Ads and Product Listing Ads
  • Ads targeting, candidate retrieval, ranking, model features, and engagement optimization
• Improve Shopping Ads platform quality across scalability, latency, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Establish engineering practices around:
  • System design
  • Experimentation
  • Code quality
  • Observability
  • Production ownership
• Partner cross-functionally (Product, ML Platform, Ads Serving, Data Science) to define roadmaps and deliver advertiser impact.

Requirements

• Ability to operate as both an Engineering Manager and a Technical Lead Manager (TLM).
• Strong communication and leadership; align teams around technical strategy and business priorities.
• Hands-on depth in ads ranking/retrieval/targeting, recommendation systems, engagement modeling, or ML-driven optimization.
• Experience building and running large-scale distributed systems and/or ML systems in production.
• Experience delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives with Product, ML Platform, Ads Serving, and Data Science.
• 8+ years of software engineering or ML engineering experience, including leading engineering teams.
• Strong systems thinking and execution in fast-moving production environments (debugging, prioritization, delivery).

Nice to have

• Familiarity with modern ads ecosystem trends, commerce advertising, and recommendation architecture patterns.
