Senior Engineering Manager (Privacy Security)

Role Overview

Join Instacart as a Senior Engineering Manager (Privacy Security) within the Privacy Engineering team. You will lead the evolution of Instacart’s privacy capabilities, manage a multidisciplinary engineering organization, and advise executive leadership on the company’s privacy vision.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Privacy Engineering team delivering privacy-by-design solutions.
• Drive development of privacy capabilities such as:
  • Shared controls
  • Data lifecycle management tooling
  • Other privacy-enhancing technologies
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of senior software and systems engineers across Privacy.
• Advise executive and technical/business leadership on the privacy roadmap and vision through ongoing written and in-person communication.
• Evaluate privacy initiatives using cost/benefit analysis in the context of business risk mitigation and operational objectives.
• Recruit, hire, upskill, and scale teams; handle performance management and help drive privacy-centric decisions with partners.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in privacy engineering, delivering holistic privacy engineering solutions integrated into product development.
• 5+ years of leadership experience directly managing an organization of ~5+ senior individual contributors.
• Experience implementing privacy/trust/security measures that have shipped in a consumer product/service.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and cloud technology.
• Working experience with privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, CPRA.
• Ability to assess and manage business risk trade-offs for privacy initiatives.
• Proven capability to recruit/hire, upskill, lead, scale teams, and perform performance management.

Nice-to-Haves

• Background in a technical degree (e.g., Computer Science or related field such as Mathematics/Engineering).
