Senior Engineering Manager (Media Foundation)

Role overview

Airbnb is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager (Media Foundation) to lead engineers building and operating the media infrastructure behind photos, videos, and documents on the platform. You’ll own the reliability, scalability, and ongoing evolution of systems powering media interactions, while setting technical direction and partnering across organizations.

Key missions

• Lead and manage a team of engineers to build and run Airbnb’s media infrastructure with a focus on reliability, scalability, and evolution.
• Define technical strategy and architecture for media infrastructure across multiple teams, aligning investments with product and business priorities.
• Partner with Product, Design, Trust, and other infrastructure organizations to shape a resilient, scalable media platform roadmap.

Requirements

• 12+ years of industry experience, including 6+ years in engineering management (managing other managers or senior technical leads).
• Strong ability to identify, retain, grow, and acquire engineering and management talent, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Product instinct and strong communication; experience influencing senior cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality, user-facing capabilities.
• Sound judgment balancing near-term business needs with long-term technical and organizational health; adaptable leadership style.
• Proven track record leading and shipping large cross-team initiatives with significant business impact and building a culture of operational excellence, quality, and reliability.
• Deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems and experience setting strategy and architecture across multiple teams.

Nice to have

• Media/content infrastructure experience such as ingestion, processing, storage, and CDN delivery.
