About the role

Role overview

As Senior Engineering Manager at Grafana Labs, you will lead the Corporate Engineering team. You’ll optimize internal IT operations, manage corporate IT and security, and drive the company’s internal AI strategy—with significant autonomy and a fully staffed team. The role is fully remote with generous benefits and a focus on professional development.

Key missions

  • Lead and grow the Corporate Engineering team to optimize IT operations and deliver the internal AI strategy
  • Operate and secure corporate IT systems, including help desk workflows and employee hardware
  • Build and deliver internal platforms to automate common IT work and enable employees to work seamlessly

Responsibilities / how you’ll work

  • Take a DevOps mindset toward IT and corporate security: prioritize enablement, automation, and guardrails over gates and roadblocks
  • Provide internal platforms to other teams (IT as a provider of tools/platforms/automation, not only a ticketing function)
  • Lead through influence and communication, engaging in technical discussions and helping teams make strong technical decisions

Requirements

  • Experience running an Engineering Operations / software engineering operations team
  • Deep curiosity and expertise spanning software, security, and technology trends
  • Strong understanding of at least one cloud provider and working knowledge of Kubernetes (k8s)
  • Hands-on experience managing and automating corporate IT systems, including:
    • OS and device management across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android
    • SSO tools (e.g., Okta, 1Password)
    • Productivity suites (e.g., Google Workspace, Office)
    • MDM (e.g., Jamf, Intune, FleetDM, Kolide)
    • EDR and DLP
    • Corporate SaaS (e.g., Salesforce, Zendesk)
    • AI providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor, Google, etc.
    • Managing employee laptops and devices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work with engineering teams that are highly autonomous; comfort guiding via influence
  • Knowledge of the current AI state of the art and ideas for leveraging AI safely across the enterprise
  • Eastern-time oriented hours to maximize overlap with EMEA peers

Nice to have

  • Technical background with programming/software engineering experience before leadership
  • Experience with Go, multiple cloud providers, and deeper Kubernetes expertise
  • A ready plan for how to secure AI
  • Significant experience leveraging and securing AI tooling for multiple personas (non-development, code, agentic automation)
  • Experience with Grafana Labs OSS projects/products and using observability tooling for IT/security
  • Experience contributing to or working with open-source communities
