Senior Engineering Manager, Foundations

Role overview

Quo is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Foundations team. Foundations builds and scales the technical and organizational infrastructure that the rest of Quo’s engineering organization depends on.

This is a hands-on leadership role spanning multiple engineering domains (mobile, web, and backend). The team is responsible for core systems including:

• GraphQL platform
• Client data sync
• Kotlin Multiplatform mobile frameworks
• CI and testing platforms
• Core client system architecture

Responsibilities

• Lead, support, and grow a team of ~8 engineers across mobile, web, and backend
• Own platform and infrastructure used by the wider engineering org
• Drive near-term priorities, including GraphQL, client data sync, and performance/architecture improvements
• Balance product-organization demands with the need to rewrite and scale core systems
• Make and guide high-quality technical decisions across multiple domains
• Manage trade-offs and prioritization across a diverse, multi-threaded portfolio
• Partner with peer engineering leadership and adjacent teams (e.g., cloud infrastructure, developer experience) to align platform direction
• Coach and develop a talented, distributed engineering team

Requirements

• Managed engineering teams as a manager with responsibility spanning more than one domain (mobile/web/backend)
• Deep technical experience, able to actively help with technical decision-making and system design
• Strong background in system design and experience operating at scale / through rapid scaling
• Ability to own a diverse, multi-threaded portfolio and make clear trade-offs
• Leads with empathy; effective managing a diverse, distributed team
• Clear communicator; able to hold technical direction discussions with senior stakeholders

Nice to have

• Experience managing managers
• Hands-on familiarity with GraphQL, client data sync, Kotlin Multiplatform, and/or CI/testing platforms
